The UN Tourism General Assembly convened its 45th Plenary Session last week, bringing together global leaders, industry stakeholders and international organisations to shape the future of sustainable tourism. The session focused on strengthening collaboration, advancing innovation, and building resilience across the tourism ecosystem.
During the plenary, IMGA CEO Jens Holm delivered a presentation outlining the organisation’s mission, flagship events and long-term strategic direction. Holm highlighted IMGA’s expanding role in fostering global inclusion through sport and cultural exchange, underscoring how its multisport events create social impact and strengthen community engagement worldwide.
He also detailed IMGA’s upcoming international event calendar and emphasised three core strategic priorities:
1. High Value visitors – tourism opportunities in low season
2. Legacy beyond the games – lasting benefits and impact
3. Destination identity – immersive visitor and residence experience
The session reaffirmed the vital role of tourism and international sport in promoting understanding between nations, supporting local economies and advancing the UN’s broader development goals.
