Sergii Bubka, President of the IMGA and legendary pole vault champion with 35 World Records, brought an added spark of inspiration during the World Masters Games. Bubka, accompanied by Board members of the IMGA, toured several venues, meeting athletes and joining in the celebrations that mark this global sporting festival for mature athletes.

Their itinerary included visits to the energetic Welcome Parties, where Bubka mingled with participants from around the world. The atmosphere was one of celebration and camaraderie, with athletes exchanging stories, traditions, and a shared love for sport.

Bubka’s presence continued to energize the crowd as he visited competitions in AthleticsBadminton, and Tennis—disciplines that are not only central to the Masters Games but also symbolic of lifelong athleticism. He engaged with competitors, many of whom are well into their 50s, 60s, or even 80s, offering words of encouragement and sharing in the joy of their achievements.

“It is wonderful to see athletes competing with such passion and camaraderie,” Bubka said. “The atmosphere is vibrant and an inspiration to the world to stay active and to believe in yourself—you can still do it.”

His words echoed the spirit of the World Masters Games: that age is no barrier to pursuing excellence, joy, and connection through sport. Athletes and spectators alike welcomed his message and presence, which underscored the Games’ mission of promoting lifelong fitness, international friendship, and personal achievement.

As the Games continue, Bubka’s visits stand for his engagement to the movement, affirming the enduring power of sport to unite, motivate, and uplift.
